Favorite Book of 2021 So Far

Maggie Shipstead’s Great Circle is everything I crave in a novel with multiple timelines.

1) Unforgettable characters who are strong, vulnerable, sassy, wounded, and flawed but who dare to dream.

2) A fascinating historical thread–in this case, Prohibition and the early era of women’s flight.

3) Tension, love, insight and a view of what society was–and is–like.

4) Beautiful, gorgeous, dazzling sentences. Oh! her use of dark and light. And the metaphors….

I’ve loved all of the books by this author, but this one rises to my favorite. I’ll be re-reading this story of an adventurous aviatrix and the modern movie actress who later plays her.
